estudio b
Practice    Process   Collaborators

estudio b is a London based architecture and design practice that is interested in the construction of high quality, materially conscious and socially engaged spaces. At the forefront of the studio’s work is a focus on creating buildings and places, through collaborative processes and close engagement with clients - as well as construction specialists and makers - to help drive the development of all projects. The work is defined by elegantly crafted responses that employ inventive solutions to complex situations and challenging budgets, always striving to test materials, construction techniques, proportion and form.

The studio is fascinated by an open-ended architecture that enables opportunities for performance and a freedom of use within space. Projects range from building design & residential projects, to installations, exhibitions and set design, with recently completed commissions in the arts, fashion and retail sectors across UK, Europe and China. Current projects include a showspace for a high-end retail brand, a pop-up coffee shop, two private houses in London and the remodelling & extension to a children’s nursery in Manchester.

Benni Allan - Director
MArch PGDip ARB

The studio was established by Benni Allan, award-winning British/Spanish architect and graduate from the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL. In 2015, Benni was chosen as an emerging up-and-coming designer and ‘One to Watch’ by the British Design Council to represent the future of UK design. He was invited to work on the design for the exhibition ‘TRANSITION’ at London Fashion Week in June 2017, and developed the identity for the TOPMAN DESIGN SS18 presentation space. Benni has exhibited and showcased work extensively, including being Shortlisted for the RIBA Rising Stars Award 2017.

Prior to forming estudio b, Benni worked for Niall McLaughlin Architects and 42 Architects in London, and KSR Architects in Shenzhen, China, gaining experience delivering projects in the cultural, arts, education and residential sectors. These include projects for Jesus College and Magdalene College, Cambridge, and Somerville College in Oxford.

Teaching has become an important aspect of the work of the studio, able to test and explore ideas while allowing on-going investigations into the role of architecture in society. Benni currently teaches undergraduate Unit One at the University of Greenwich and acts as an external critic at the Bartlett with past experience of leading courses for the Bartlett Summer School.
